Check out the list of Top 10 Runners in the Olympics in this article. Running or sprinting isn’t just getting from one place to another relatively faster; it’s also a sport in which the runner who is an athlete has to cover a distance in a faster time then the other athlete. The first one to finishes the race or marathon is the winner and if his/her time taken is less than the others, he/she has then set a new record. Here’s a list of the runner who have or currently are running in the Olympics along with their ranks.

Michael Duane Johnson.

By winning four Olympic gold medal and eight championships Michael is the number one runner in Olympics’ history. Michael’s records are the highest in 400 300 and 200 meters, his 200m record has a time of 19:32, and he held this record for 12 years with no one to break it. He currently holds the 400m record with that he came to retirement.

Catherine Ndereba.

Born in 87 in Kenyan, Catherine is the second top raked runner and the number one top ranked female runner by winning 3 marathon’s and a silver medal in the Olympics’. Catherine broke the women’s marathon by setting a time record of 12:18:47. Catherine also won an award for the sportswoman of the year back in 2010. Not only has that but Catherine also had some lower ranks in other marathons than the Olympics.

Steve Prefontaine.

Steve is an American athlete runner born in the 50’s, Also having the best records ever till some time back Steve is the third top ranked runner and second top male runner in the Olympics till now’. Steve had his records in almost all of the distances marathons, even in the 5,000 to the 10,000m runs. Steve also had other ranks and records in marathons other than the Olympics till he passed away back in 70’s due to an automobile accident.

Naoko Takahashi.

Naoko Is another female athlete runner born in Japan and is the fourth top ranked athlete runner and the second female top ranked runner of the Olympics. Naoko is found mostly running in marathons, setting records and ranks. One of Naoko’s records is being the first women to break the 2:20:00 time record and setting a new record, Naoko had well going running career till she retired back in 08. After Naoko’s retirement she was offered to be the in- charge of the championship named in her legacy.

Wang Junxia.

Wang is another Asian runner from China who is the top fifth ranked runner in the Olympics. Wang won the 92’s Olympics by a time record of 32:29:90, the track was 10,000m long. Other than that Wang had broken a couple of records and won many marathons with the help of her coaches that took her to the top till her retirement from running.

Yoko Shibui.

Born in the 70’s Yoko is currently competing in the 5,000 and the 10,000m runs. Also holding the Japanese record in the women marathon Yoko is the fifth top ranked runner of the Olympics. Yoko has a time recorded of 30:48:89 in the over 10,000 meters runs along with other ranks and positions.

Sun Yingjie.

Sun’s another Female Asian athlete runner from china whose is ranked as the seventh amongst the top 10 runner of the Olympics who runs in 5,000m marathons and beyond. Sun came to be known for her running when she first won a gold medal in the Asian Games and a bronze medal, and so on till she got a position then rank in the Olympics.

Geoffrey Mutai.

Geoffrey is another male athlete from Kenyan who is the eighth top ranked runner of the Olympics, he specializes in road running. Geoffrey has a record to be the fastest runner on road by a time record of 02:03:02. As the other athlete runners on this list Geoffrey has a rank in the Olympics and as any other athlete runner he has set and broken records and won marathons other than the Olympics.

Paul Kibii Tergat.

Born in the 70’s in Kenyan Paul is a professional self motivated and a hard-working athlete runner. Along with Paul’s ranking and winnings he is given a nickname “The Gentlemen” which represents his behavior. Being the ninth top ranked athlete runner in the Olympics Paul has a record of his own from 2003 to 2007 which was of a time of 02:04:55. currently Paul is concentrating on the net marathon.

Tirunesh Dibaba.

Dibaba is also known as the “Baby Faced Destroyer” as she is the winner of the 10,000m championship and holds the 5,000m world record in athlete running. Dibaba comes from a family of athletes as her brother and sister are medalists and have their own records. Dibaba is the tenth top ranked athlete and fifth female top ranked athlete in the Olympics.
